Waiting

IMG_6742-3It’s always a little disturbing when you start to look closely at the amount of time you spend waiting during your lifetime.  I’m not just counting the time you’re physically queueing, or waiting for your dinner but the time you’re not fully focussed because you may, for example, be waiting on instructions, information or just a page to refresh on your browser of choice.  It’s all dead time.  Completely and utterly useless wasted time.  I spent 180 minutes of my life in a car, on a motorway, un-moving because of a lorry fire this morning.  What could I have been doing instead? or perhaps the question should be what would I have been doing instead?

The Long Road Home

Had a play with the TriggerTrap Mobile app on the way home from work last night.   Haven’t played with it for a while and it’s a lot more stable than it used to be now, having suffered just one crash (of the application) on the whole trip.  This I suspect was caused mostly by me covering 50m quicker than the iPhone could cope with taking and saving a photo.

Triggertrap was set to Distance Lapse rather than time lapse, triggering a capture every 50m or so.  In practice, some images were captured well within 50m of the previous one and some were considerably further apart.  Again, I don’t think this is a Triggertrap issue, more down to the phone, and Location services being able to keep up with the speed of change.

Anyhow, I managed an impressive 978 shots before the battery died, some 5 miles short of home.  Assembled at 10 fps, the resultant video looks like this.  I did originally have a Kasabian track as the background – it worked well to give a sense of frenzied drive around the M25.  Unfortunately YouTube didn’t like it for copyright reasons so I swapped it out for something royalty free.  It really changes the whole tone of the film though (have a look at the Flickr version for the original soundtrack).

Week 17 – Winter

Week 17 - Winter

It wasn’t actually that wintery this week, but work was manic and I knew I wouldn’t have time to get out and about. Grabbed a couple of chilly shots with the iphone, but wanted something more and something a little different to the icy, snowy shots. Dug some gloves out of the cupboard and placed them on the radiator for a quick grab fully intending to stage something properly later (the plan was to have these, snowboots and a puddle on the floor) but as is more often the case, I never actually got round to finishing it. Still at least I never missed a week in actually taking the shots. Just never added any to the group.

Triggertrap – Test shots….

I’ve had the app and the dongle for a while and other than some time lapse vids of the journey home from work I’ve never actually used it. This week I finally got round to purchasing a 2.5mm to 3.5 mm cable so I can use it to trigger the flash instead of the camera and subsequently started thinking about what I could use it for.

These were a hastily set up test session to try and get the setting for the ‘Bang’ trigger to work – Had a few issues initially whereupon the camera kept snapping away after the noise but after a few tweaks I think I got it sorted. I know that these are a bit rough round the edges, but as test shots I’m quite happy with them. All I need to do now is set something up properly with a decent background (not the shiny sink), replace water with milk (or cream) and swap out the smelly pickled onion for something a little more attractive……
