Going to have a lot of fun with this one. Unfortunately my head’s bursting with ideas, and that’s before I’ve looked anything up in the dictionary. Going to be a challenge to actually decide what I want to shoot form the list. This was a concept thing (to see if I could manage it on my own or whether I needed a model) and although lighting wise they’re shocking with a bit more effort to make sure that everything lines up where it should (and the shoes are cleaned) this could be an option….
So many interpretations of the theme this week it’s pretty amazing. The first, and probably most obvious thing that sprung to mind was fast as an adjective. Quick, Not slow. This alone provides limitless potential with fast things happening around us pretty much anywhere, all day. Getting a fast shot here wouldn’t take a great deal of imagination, nor a complicated set-up. In fact, I raided the archives and I already have a ton of photos that would happily fit this theme.
Fast shutter, fast spinning coin, fast lens……. you get the picture (pun intended)
Alternatively, there’s the ignition point of butane – That’s pretty quick too. Quite difficult to catch this but worth the effort in the long run.
Then there’s the fast streams of molten magnesium and iron filings burning. How many more can there be.
So for this week I once again had some rather grand ideas. I haven’t taken the shot yet (in fact I’ve not even got the safety shots in the bag either) but I have been thinking.
Fast is a great adjective. It’s also a verb, an adverb and noun. Quite excited about this and definitely have something a little different to the immediate connection with speed in mind.
a chain or rope for mooring a vessel.
1670–80; alteration, by association with fast 1 , of late Middle English fest, perhaps noun use of fest, past participle of festen to fasten, or < Old Norse festr mooring rope fast1 [fast, fahst] adjective, fast·er, fast·est, adverb, fast·er, fast·est, noun adjective 1. moving or able to move, operate, function, or take effect quickly; quick; swift; rapid: a fast horse; a fast pain reliever; a fast thinker. 2. done in comparatively little time; taking a comparatively short time: a fast race; fast work. 3. (of time) a. indicating a time in advance of the correct time, as of a clock. b. noting or according to daylight-saving time. 4. adapted to, allowing, productive of, or imparting rapid movement: a hull with fast lines; one of the fastest pitchers in baseball. 5. characterized by unrestrained conduct or lack of moral conventions, especially in sexual relations; wanton; loose: Some young people in that era were considered fast, if not downright promiscuous.
Right, last minute change of plan again. Sat there having a fag after being told off by the dentist this morning for being a smoker. Whilst pondering that, I realised that smoking is pretty much a slow everything, a slow killer, a slow but steady drain on my wallet, a slow but sure way of losing teeth and so on. So…. Out came the flash and there we have it. If I were to actually have planned this rather than it being a spur of the moment thing I think I would have cleaned the ashtray. Might also have shot a bit wider and used another flash to highlight the smoke more (though that would have presented challenges with the background which I again kept dark by using a small aperture in a not very well lit room (the kitchen). Not as happy with this as previous weeks but it’s not an iphone picture of a traffic jam !!
Quite a poor showing this week. Certainly not a lack of insopiration but more a lack of opportunity. Quite embarrased to even have taken these ones (The iphone is a camera too right?) but kind of sums up the week really.
If I can’t get anything tomorrow then one of these will have to do, which will be disappointing to say the least. Already got some ideas for fast. Hopefully I’ll find the time to make them happen….
On the plus side – I haven’t missed a week yet
Bit of a gaffe this week, work’s been an absolute nightmare and have been busy with Pumpkins and stuff indoors (no photos either). Had some really grand ideas for this week and unfortunately ended up rushing this in the last 20 minutes to get something submitted for tonight !! – Quite happy with it as a conceptual test shot but I can tell it was rushed so kind of spoils it for me. Aldso, it isn’t quite what I was after – Wanted me looking in a mirror, with the reflection half edited (so the real me looke whole and the reflection looked rotten). Would have also liked to have experimented a bit more with this to try and make the skin look mouldy and rotten but again, time stole from me again. That said, I can always go back and have a tinker another day.
Turning into a bit of a self portrait 52 this end, hopefully have something obscure for next week…..
If anyone’s interested, had an off camera flash, close and low/ Blended me with a stock photo of a skull (one of which is added to the Amazon wish list along with a smoke machine) .
Added the skull as a new layer and used Transform to get it into place.
Then added a layer mask and painted with a black brush so the background showed through.
Tidied it all up a bit, and then ran a Draganizer action that I’ve had for ages and never seen any need to use.
