Whilst out in the garden I was surprised to find this. Surprised mostly because our garden is utterly devoid of Flora with the exception of our neighbours Ivy and some weedy grass. No idea what kind of flower it is and never have I seen one like it before. The Stamen are shaped like some sort of Alien Helicopter and the flies seem to like it, as do the gnats. Otherwise it was just there, on it’s own
Recorded for posterity with the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 with a 12mm Kenko Extention tube attached.
November – Right. Crappy weather busy at work and aside from the Football I don’t think I’ve taken a photo for fun for months.
Someone on the talkphotography forums had asked a few questions about Kenko Tubes so I dragged mine out of the bag and had a play….
Nothing special but not a bad result for 10 minutes titting about. The one with the flash underneath will be interesting to play with and try to recover some of the stamen detail…..
Took delivery of a new (to me) Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 this morning and despite having lots to do I couldn’t resist firing off at least one, well OK ten or so test shots with it to see how it went.
At first I thought it was broken as I couldn’t hear the motor for the AF. Then, I thought it was magic, because even though I was changing focal lengths, every time I looked through the viewfinder, the focus was spot on !! I then of course realised that this is all perfectly normal for a lens that costs more than £100 and the lenses I’m used to are just slow and clunky. Think I’m going to enjoy this one……….
As this as supposed to be just a quick test shot, it was hand held, with the following settings. The ‘arrangement’ is on my dining room table, lit by the dull grey that is today through the patio doors.
Background is a brown sofa and the back ache from standing there trying to make sure the wallpaper, door and the other stuff in the vase didn’t creep into the shot is all mine.
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)
Focal Length 114 mm
ISO Speed 1600
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire
OK, I know it’s a weed, and follows the other recent weeds, but for some reason, this is just depressing……..
Of reminding you what’s important in life. Things like Love, and Sunshine. OK, it may not be a Rose but as I was Just about to hack this useless weed to death with a petrol mower (I wasn’t really, I was thinking about whether I could afford a gardener to do all the tedious crap for me) I was suddenly struck by the shape of the leaves……. Any excuse to get the camera out.
