the xmas Nifty 50 Challenge……

I set myself a challenge this Christmas of only using the Nifty Fifty (Canon 50mm F1.8) prime lens. I thought it’d make me think harder about composition and framing as well as lighting. I’m not sure whether it was down to the unwillingness of my models, too much to eat or more likely too much wine but as challenges go, the end results weren’t that spectacular. Plenty of snaps for the family albums and the kids scrapbooks, resplendent with accompanying memories but precious few ‘real’ photographs.

And for something a little different…….

Morning Glory

Morning Glory

Early Autumn Mornings just can’t be beaten, especially when at six o’clock it’s already 18 degrees with a promise of record breaking sunshine. The heat creating a lovely ground hugging mist, coating everything in tiny droplets of water.

This cobweb, was captured with a Canon 50mm f1.8 and 30mm of Kenko Macro extension tubes.

Dandelion – Before they’re interesting

Dandelions are fairly nondescript, yellow weedy pests. Until you get up close.
When viewed through a 50mm lens attached to 36mm of Kenko Extention tubes, these common weeds can become objects of wonder and even beauty. From the patterned tips of the petals to the pollen laden stamen, the detail that nature puts into these nasty flowers is surreal.

Weed

For some reason, this one’s generated quite a lot of interest on Flickr as well (otherwise I very much doubt I would have posted it here).
