More extension tube attempts ended up in the bin this lunchtime. Had plenty of flowery thingies from in the garden, and a couple of things I found laying about indoors.¬† Not the greatest shot in the world, though with the flash off camera¬† I think I’ve got the Depth of Field issues sorted now !
Was going to try a couple of additional ones of this, bouncing the flash to eliminate some of the shadows. Unfortunately, I ate it instead.
Why is it you can never find a snail or a spider when you need one?

Blimey, another month passed already.  Just a quick one today to remind everyone (or to let everyone know) that the 20th Edition of the PhotographyBB magazine was released yesterday.  Dave Seram, the editor, and founder of PhotographyBB said today;
“This theme of this month’s edition is ‘It’s Processing Time.’ Often we find ourselves with a large collection of images gathering digital dust on our harddrives as they remain in their un-processed state. This month we’re looking at using all the tools including Photoshop, Photomerge, ACR, and even Adobe After Effects in a series of processing related articles. We’ll be showing you how to remove people from an image easily without having to use the clone tool, as well as some other exciting stuff!”
The magazine is free to download from the website HERE
PhotographyBB was founded in Oct, 2006, and is a division of PowerButton Central (2004).

Tried something else this afternoon. Wondered (thanks to an inspired post by someone else earlier on the Talk Photography forums) how difficult it would be to photograph a spinning coin, indoors. The answer was of course bloody difficult. Especially as the lens I was using just wouldn’t, or couldn’t maintain focus on the coin. Ended up focussing manually, in AV mode at a variety of shutter speeds. No flash used in this one, but like the water droplets, am quite keen to try this again with Flash and Without.
Photographers Rights And The Law In The UK – the law and photography.
To provide some balance to the previous post, I thought it prudent to include this one.¬† Sadly, given the number of similar stories that regularly appear in the local and national papers, along with personal experiences of some of my peers over at the forums this information just doesn’t seem to have been taken onboard by a lot of the PCSO’s and regular officers on the beat.
I would also offer the suggestion that when confronted by angry parents/policemen/general public, waving a printed copy of these about and shrugging your shoulders isn’t likely to help.¬† Yes, we as photographers, should stant up for our rights but we should do this by way of education rather than meeting aggression with aggression.
Nothing works better than a reasoned and sensible conversation, offer to show the antagonist(s) your photographs if you think it might help, and try and reason with them.
If, of course, reason fails, there’s always the old fashioned clip round the ear with the tripod apprioach !.
This CRB-check paranoia won‚Äôt stop another Soham | Chris Stevenson – Times Online. for the full article.¬† If a retired Detective Inspector can’t take photos of his own grandson, what hope is there for the rest of us?
The final entry for the August Photographer of the year round.
A bit of a makeshift shot as the arty ones I set up for all turned out rather badly. Was only as I sipped this contemplating abject failure I realised that the answer to the theme was evaporating before my very eyes.
Taken against the sun, exposed for the sky then dialled down to underexpose by 1 stop then dialled in -2 on the 430ex.
The bottle was hand held in my left hand while I adroitly operated the camera with my right. Quite pleased with th result but wasn’t what I wanted for the theme
Taken at colchester zoo in the spring, the RAW file was re-visited a while ago and I realised that this photo was begging for a caption.
You have to bear in mind that I was working my notice whan this was edited, and had just taken a random day off sick with nothing special to do…..
